The piano player

Ulisse Caputo (Italian, 1872-1948) – The piano player, 1913 (Oil on canvas) – Richard Miller was instrumental in persuading Caputo to abandon his sombre palette in favour of a new spectrum of colour. His paintings became brighter with vibrant tones. Here, the viewer is placed directly at the table, listening to the piano with a tea cup nearby. One of the figures is dreaming, lost in thought, which is typical of the artist’s work…
